Treating tendencies vs supporting the body

I have been pondering this for a long time, and that is the idea of balancing someone who has a strong tendency
toward one way. For example, someone who is guarded, possibly seems rude, and heavy and shows as a liver
excess, but they also have a lot of anxiety and this ‘liver’ tendency seems like the body’s way of protecting itself –
would it be wise to do a SJ treatment or should we acknowledge what the body is naturally trying to do itself and
give a Liver+?
Another one I have seen recently is a chronically frustrated, irritable person, who is dealing with some stressful
things, but they seem like they just haven’t peaked or fully expressed their anger – would a GB+ be appropriate or
would that send them over the edge? Again, it seems to me that the body is trying to release the pressure and
pushing it upward with a GB + might help them, and if we pulled back with a PC+ that the pressure won’t actually
have a chance to release and can come back again and again.
If we just go with balancing the opposites in both of these cases, it seems to me that we are not allowing the body
to express what it needs to in order to find its own balance. I hope this makes sense, I am often a bit perplexed with
these.
Thanks

Great Questions!! We are so ultimately, compensatory beings . . . so much of what is taking place in us is
comnpensatory! I find myself in the same inquiry often! and at times, I just pick one and sit with the patient for a
good 5 minutes or so and observe their response – which in the end, is the ultimate answer to the question.

This is every single day in clinic. So so many of these cases – “what do they need in this moment?” “What is the
energy that is predominant in this moment?” That is what I ask myself with at least a couple of these mixed
patients everyday. Maybe I need to go through the wheel and find a channel pair with a larger delta that does not
pertain to channels we would typically ascribe to their main complaint. As Daniels said I sit with them and wait.
For example I had a 32yo male on Friday who can get depressed, holds in his emotions, never gets angry, has
anxiety and a stickler for outward details (PhD student), good eye contact…Oh my. And his main complaint is05/01/2024, 11:27Treating tendencies vs supporting the body – Qiological Community

hemorrhoids/constipation. I’ve done the physical channels. A LR+ supplementation said helped his anxiety and ‘he
liked it’. I felt this day he needed an up and out. He has talked about how he feels all his symptoms are emotionally
and he tightens up inside. Debated with SJ+/GB+ and went with GB+. I sat with him for a bit, and he felt calm. (I
have trouble with seeing the face changes as Toby suggests). He fell asleep and felt calm, but no release of any
emotions that I have seen before from supplementing GB+. I do not think it did anything to help his MC. These are
the cases that frustrate me for sure.
When I don’t know I sometimes take risks. It is a practice. I definitely experiment more on patients with good
rapport that live close by as I tell them if they have any negative effects to immediately call me and come in so we
can restore balance. That is one of the many beautiful things about this style of Sa’am.
