Tonifying SJ in a GB excess person

I have been thinking about tonifying SJ in a GB excess person.
THis particular scenario doesn’t sit right with me. When a person is GB excess and has a strong tendency to go up
and out in anger so the thought of tonifying the Shao yang even in a SJ type of way still feels like it would
encourage the fire of shao yang to go up and aggravate the GB anger.
I am obviously thinking about a particular client who is GB excess but also has a heavier foot, a dense body, is
oblivious to a lot of what goes on around him, and is very hard to reach – barely answers my questions and is even
annoyed at me that I am asking. He basically answers that he doesnt know to everything that I ask.
I would like to tonify SJ for him but the thought of it is making me uncomfortable for the above reasons and
because I wonder if some of the resistance to answering my questions may be more from an aggressive place then
an oblivious place.
Any thoughts?

Its a great question Adina. But think of SJ in this system – light and bright and super polite! I think if the shoe fits,
don’t worry about it, do it. There is nothing in this system that has SJ+ exacerbating an outward expression of
aggression. By shifting the Liver – San Jiao axis, you may well moderate the GB excess in a positive and beneficial
way.

I hear you. You are basically saying that the shao yang isnt all about up and out anger, it is also about up and out
brightness and light. I was worried about the explosive aspect of the up and out but you are saying that if the shao
yang was more balanced with the bright positive light aspect of shao yang then the person may not move to anger
so quickly…
Well said. THank-you.

Think of making Mike Tyson super polite! And there’s more Adina . . . . Sanjiao is Fire. Gall Bladder is Wood. Fire
controls Wood. So by supporting Fire/SanJiao, you are also controlling Wood/Gall Bladder. Also, in Sa’Am terms,
by tonifying SanJiao, you are counterbalancing excessive Liver which is excessive Yin Wood – no doubt this will
also have a moderating effect on excessive Yang Wood. The whole system is so full of dynamic interrelationships.09/01/2024, 12:09Tonifying SJ in a GB excess person – Qiological Community

Wow!! You opened my eyes up to a whole new way of looking at it! I didn’t even consider all those
interrelationships. THank-you!!

Daniel: January 25, 2021, 2:52pm
yes!! – it’s so easy to forget that all the relationships exist regardless of the one or two we may be focused
(exclusively?) on!

on the shen cycle, wood feeds fire and on the control cycle wood controls earth
metal controls wood, water feeds wood09/01/2024, 12:09Tonifying SJ in a GB excess person – Qiological Community

this is put out by the Worsley school and is very useful to see the relationships. If you haven’t had a chance to study
it, you’ll see that in the small white circles is another set of colored circles. if you look for the point combos that
we are using, you can see the shen and ke cycles at work. its a useful chart and it also made in a laminated poster
size if you wanted to hang it.

OMG!! so sorry, I made a terrible mistake above!!
Gall Bladder feeds SanJiao
still, there is that backward insulting dynamic
by tonifying San Jiao, it would also have a ‘diminishing impact’ on Gall Bladder

Does it seem like he is about to explode when he isn’t answering your questions or more lack of awareness of the
answers to your questions and/or the fact that information he gives you could really help you treat him?
In the beginning I found Liver excess behavior really insulting, which I could easily have interpreted as aggressive.
It was helpful to learn that Liver excess folks can’t help their rudeness to some extent.

yes!
I have found I prefer to call it ‘obliviousness’ rather than ‘rudeness’

Some of both but there is a distinct aggressive quality in his answers. It is not only that he does not pay attention to
these details about himself but he is actually annoyed that I am even asking such a question.

I think your point that there are many different interrelationships that influence each other in many different ways
is still well taken.09/01/2024, 12:09Tonifying SJ in a GB excess person – Qiological Community

Yes, there are some people that “just want the problem fixed” but are not interested in being part of the solution.
GB excess are not only aggressive with others, they can be aggressive with themselves as well.
Interesting idea of @Daniel on this about +SJ as a way to move the up and out aggression of yang wood into the
yang fire of the SJ. Thus bringing out more fully the aspects of the SJ. This is clearly not part of the basic ways we
think of working, but the can also be seen as making sense from what we know of the 5 phases. So… maybe.
Do take good notes and let us know how it goes.
