Working today on clarifying the core essence of each of the 6 Qi channel pairings within Sa’Am and I have come
up with this . . .
Tai Yin / Yang Ming is about Resources and the Agency available to use those resources. And it expresses
physically through moisture balance.
Jue Yin / Shao Yang is about Internal versus External Focus and the shielding and boundaries involved in that. And
it expresses physically through warm, cool and wind.
Shao Yin / Tai Yang is about Love of Self versus Love of Others, Blood and Extremes. And it expresses physically
through hot and cold and blood stasis pain.

Those all resonate with me. And it’s interesting too as you at the zi xu (meridian flow) clock, we see the Yin
aspects “containing” the Yang aspects in a series of triads.
The taiyin/yangming is about physicality.
The shaoyin/taiyang is about sense of self, other and boundary
But the jueyin/shaoyang… this one seems to also be about expression across boundaries. It’s less “emotional” than
the shaoyin. And it has to do with ‘wisdom and action’, it’s about a kind of knowing one’s inner world and being
able to express with action in the outer world.
I’m still chewing on these myself.
These Six Jing… I suspect they go deeper than I’ve previously considered.

Michael – thanks for helping to take this further . . . I am not finding in my looking into all of this that
‘shaoyin/taiyang is about . . . other and boundary’, as I understand them in this Sa’Am system. I totally agree that
Jueyin/Shaoyang is very much about the capacity or incapacity, in healthy ways and in distorted unhealthy ways to
manage the shielding/vulnerability tension/dynamic appropriately or inappropriately in our lives – and hence the
dynamic between our inner and outer (interesting that PC6 and TW5 are ‘inner gate’ and ‘outer gate’). But as I
understand the Shaoyin/Taiyang . . . at this point, we are into more of an inner and outer love as two very separate
concerns – where the dynamic of interchange between inside and outside is not involved and it is much more about25/01/2024, 11:23The Essence of Things – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

self-love and love-of-others as two much more separate things. In other words, the boundaries and the dynamic
interactivity between internal and external are the domain of Jueyin/Shaoyang as I understand it but not in the
domain of Shaoyin/Taiyang (which in full ‘pathology’ become the poles of Narcissism and Suicidality but in
‘health’ I would think are about healthy selfless Love and healthy dignified self-respect . . . . without the
involvement of shielding or boundaries as actionable mechanisms). In other words, therapeutically speaking, the
rectification in Shaoyin/Taiyang is not about the interactions and dynamics BETWEEN inner and outer, self and
other but the interactions WITHIN those, at this point, quite separate domains.

Hi Daniel,
I like the way you are trying to reframe the material to make the core themes more visible. It has been one of my
favorite past times this year as well. When doing so, it is always good to then go back to the class Powerpoint and
compare notes.
My organizing mind reframes things differently than you do. I don’t find it as helpful to make generalizations
about conformation pairs. Sticking to the Saam pairs gives more clarity.
For instance:
Daniel:
Jue Yin / Shao Yang is about Internal versus External Focus and the shielding and boundaries involved in that.
And it expresses physically through warm, cool and wind.
While Liv and SJ clearly are cool and warm respectively, temperature for P and Gb are not significant.
Daniel:
Tai Yin / Yang Ming is about Resources and the Agency
I assign agency, the capacity for individuals to act indepenently, to the P/GB axis. The P excess is less of her own
personal agent and relies on the structure of methodical, rational rule following. Gb excess assertiveness/aggression
is personal agency gone wild.
My take on the LI/Sp axis is more about discernment and level of refinement of resources. Not so much about
asserting independent will.
Daniel:
In other words, therapeutically speaking, the rectification in Shaoyin/Taiyang is not about the interactions and
dynamics BETWEEN inner and outer, self and other but the interactions WITHIN those, at this point, quite
separate domains.
*Consolidation * is an important value K/SI and speaks to the above. Consolidation of self.25/01/2024, 11:23The Essence of Things – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

Everything above is just my individual understanding. Thanks for providing the opportunity to articulate and
hopefully refine in the process. I welcome the conversation.
