Sweat in Sa’Am?

How does sweat fit in the Sa’Am system. I don’t think I’ve heard much mention of it. Is it primarily a sign /
symptom of ‘external dampness’ (addressed – if its one of the loudest symptoms – through either Large Intestine or
Lung)? Or does it get differentiated more than that? Whole body sweat? Chest Sweat? Upper Body Sweat? Night-
time Sweat? Clammy Sweat? Soaking Sweat? Sweat on exertion? Spontaneous Sweat? I have had two patients just
this week – both freezing cold – both with sweating – one whole upper body sweating – the other just on the sternum
and across the upper back. The cold really was primary and central. I supplemented Heart in both cases. In the first
case, he began to feel warm right away, felt profoundly calm. In the second case, she actually felt colder with the
treatment (she just sweats ‘between my boobs’ – so much so she sleeps with a towel ‘between my boobs’ and across
her upper back).

I have a patient who is 60 yr old F with hot flashes with extreme sweating. She literally had sweat pouring down
her face and chest with hot flashes.
Initially I treated her with K+. That calmed the heat somewhat but she still dripped sweat. The following week I
tonifyed LV thinking of astringing the sweat with the thought that SJ might also be contributing to her heat
problem. She has not had anymore sweating since that treatment 3 weeks ago. Also her hot flashes are short lived,
lasting a few seconds, no longer intense and 90% reduced in frequency.

from what I understand D, sweats easily is STxs.
hopefully that can be confirmed and or denied

I think you need to look at the presentation such as Daniel suggests and cannot just say STxs. Some simplified
examples: Overweight, moist/oily skin, sweats, could suggest SPxs. Skinny w/ moist skin and sweats could suggest
STxs. Overweight and dry skin but sweats could be LUxs. Good looking, blood stasis signs and sweating could be
SIxs. Hates heat, red skin, rapid pulse and sweat could be HTxs.

so in other words, what George is suggesting is that the Sweat per se does not contribute to the Sa’Am
differentiation – that is made via other manifestations.

I look forward to Kristin’s input, but that is the way I have been viewing it.
Could be a lack of consolidation, could be damp on surface, could be damp in interior, could be overall damp,
could be excess heat.

I like the way George is thinking, except I wouldn’t say damp in the interior since the sweat is clearly on the
outside.

Thanks for the case @somniferi. Toby has mentioned that Liver+ hasn’t typically worked for his hot flash
patients, though others have had experiences similar to yours.
Was your patient clearly a SJ excess type? I wouldn’t use the

astringing the sweat
to describe the action of Liver. More cooling and densifying. That just keeps in more in Saam terms.

But I do see a overweight fellow with definite dry skin and sweats so easily. So is that on the surface moisture or
surface dryness? I see that as damp on the inside just coming out. Curious.
