Hi Marco,
I can only speak from my experience which has primarily been learning through Toby. Other resources that I have
looked at have been confusing.
The first step is taking the intro class that Toby offers. Primarily focus in on all the information in the powerpoint
that is provided with that class. Take very seriously each word of describing the nature and excess of each channel.
These are the gems of Saam. Take seriously all of the recommendations Toby gives for proper needle technique and
be sure you are using adequate needle gauge and stimulation in your treatments.
Secondarily focus on all of the other information Toby provides to flesh out each channel archetype.
I see you have already been looking around on the forum. Great! Read lots of cases provided here. Make sure that
you understand the outcomes in terms of the gems of Saam even if the writers have included analysis from other
systems.
Analyze your own cases in terms of Saam. Look here for some tools for seeing your patients better through Saam
eyes: Case Study Format
Feel free to post cases here if you would like to discuss them.
When applying Saam in clinic, write down the top 3-5 channel excesses the patient presents. Even better yet, go
through all aspects of the patients presentation in relationship to the 12 channels. Make sure you have considered
all 12 channels.
When treating patients, pay close attention to their response on the table. Be sure that you have adequate lighting
so that you can watch their face for changes in color and relaxation- as much as masks will allow.
Notice the channel excess qualities all around you: in your family and friends, in the weather, in your environment,
in your animals. It really is fun and eye opening to see the world through the lens of Saam. For me it also has been
heart opening. Recognizing the channel excesses in people and things around me helps me take them less
personally. The UB excess person can help but be cold even if I would like her to be warmer and fuzzier. The Liver
excess person can’t help but be dense and just doesn’t see her environment.
Feel free to ask questions. We all learn from discussions on this forum. Welcome to the community!23/01/2024, 11:43Studying Saam step by step? – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

Hello @Marco
You can start with Qiological podcast number 45.
There are other podcast conversations with Toby, but this is the place to start.
Taking a class is very helpful. We don’t have any live Intro classes scheduled at this time. But there is an on-
demand class you can take online that will get you started.
And as @KristinWisgirda pointed out. This forum is full of useful clinical information and best of all you can
interact with other people using the Saam method.
One last thing, when beginning… just use one side and treat only one channel/organ and only use the tonifying
method. This will help you to learn faster, and help you to catch mistreatment early on.
Welcome!
Michael
