Stones – Internal Dampness?

I’ve always understood stones (Kidney stones, Gall stones) to be highly congealed phlegm in Chinese Medicine.
Would we in Sa’Am consider them to be evidence or signs of internal dampness (albeit very ‘congealed’)?

I haven’t heard T speak about stones before. He is on retreat right now. I will ask for his perspective when he
returns.

I tend to think of stones as a kind of highly congealed dampness. At least in my recollection the folks that had
chronic “stone problems” tended toward dampness, not dryness.
I suspect you could see this as a severe consolidation of the kidney, and I’ve treated one person in the past year
using +SI for pain and to move qi, and gave him some “slippery herbs.” He passed a honking large stone as a
result.

I asked Toby: <How are kidney/gall stones considered in Saam? Congealed damp/phlegm? Too much consolidation
for the Kidney stones? Not a strong consideration unless scans say that stones are caught in ducts?>
Toby answered: “My teacher didn’t specifically discuss kidney stones with me. I have had success with
supplementing SI.”
