Small Intestine

“The small intestine receives the food that has been digested by the spleen and stomach and further extracts,
absorbs, and distributes it throughout the body, all the while separating the pure from the turbid.” Huang Di Nei
Jing Su Wen Chapter 8 (Ni 1995)
Why does the small intestine’s ability “to separate the pure from the turbid” fit perfectly with Saam theory?

What comes to mind first is that its polar pair, Kidney is consolidating . . . and separating is the opposite of
consolidating.

KiExcess inherent insistence of me, myself and I results in accumulations and stagnations. But there is also a purity
to KiExcess. SI+ moves these accumulations/turbidities and helps Ki restore to a healthier sense of purity.

Hey Daniel and Turiya,
I was thinking along those same lines.
SI’s overall quality of dynamic movement encapsulates the motility of segmentation contractions and peristalsis.
Specifically for the “separating the clear from the turbid” part I was thinking the SI’s fire phase enables hyper-
absorption of clear nutrients. While SI’s Tai Yang conformation enables fear of and hypo-absorption of turbid non-
nutrients.

wow Toby! thats intense . . . feels like a very dense insight to me . . thank you so much for sharing that . . . the
hyper absorption of the fire aspect . . . the fear/hypo absorption of the Tai Yang aspect . . . I feel like I need to
contemplate that for months! . . . . along those lines . . . one thing I have often suggested separates humans from
other animals is that in a big sense, at times we run TOWARDS fire and at times we run FROM fire . .
.understanding both its VALUE and its DANGER.

you know, what is coming to mind now is that your commentary now places SI as a corner of a box rather than an
end of a line (polarity) . . . one corner – Heart – is hyper . . one corner – Bladder is hypo . . . one corner, SI separates
hyper from hypo . . . one corner , Kidney consolidates them

The SI, as a yang channel and organ has no volition. It’s an involuntary muscle. Toiling in the endless exercise of
distributing clarity. It’s Interesting how both the SI and ST have no means to preserve self. The Small Intestine
lacks the ability to compress against it’s innate mission to sublimate. The Stomach lacks an ability to sequester
with plenitude.
