Routine Sub-Sternal Confusion

So in assessing the Bladder – Heart counterbalance pair, we are to palpate the substernal area and look for either
cold and tight or warm and soft.
Over the past six months, I have palpated this area on many many patients and I am surprised at how often (most of
the time), I find the area is either cold and soft or warm and tight!!

Humm… I should start to investigate this. I don’t often palpate that area unless people have an objective complaint
in that area. I’ll add it into my usual “poking around” mix of palpation and see what shows up.
