I would love to hear people’s experiences and perspectives of using the Sa’am system with pediatric patients. Is
this a thing?
I am really interested to begin using it on my own kids once I have a clear understanding of the diagnosing and
choosing the correct balancing treatment.
Strong needling will not be an option (at least with my kids). Shoni shin tools and Saam? Tuning forks and Saam?
Even light needling and Saam? I’m so curious in hearing people’s perspectives and experience (if any) since it
seems almost counterintuitive to the practice of Saam. I do not want to dilute the system but also believe it can be
so effective for kids since kids are sooooo quick to change anyway.

Hi @haunani,
I recently heard an acupuncturist using Sa’am with a teishin on a 4 year old with great results. She talked about
strongly using the same energetic intentions of tonification/drainage on the appropriate points.
I haven’t used it on kids.
The Seattle class was attended by 2 veterinarian acupuncturists who had fun stories about using it on animals.
Anybody else out there with experiences?

I have been using Pyonex seirin 0.3mm on young kids with o.k. results, can’t direct them but I push on them in the
direction I want them to go. One patient who is 7 ,cold all the time and very needle sensitive feels warmer with a
pyonex suppl heart treatment. My kid patients over ten years old I am needling. I have 2 boys who are aggressive,
punch walls and are a nightmare for the parents, I have suppl. PC with amazing results but I am needling them like
an adult. They don’t mind and think its kinda cool as they are skate boarders and are used to banging themselves
up.

I’ve just treated a 12 year old girl using Saam and had excellent results. She comes with an unclear diagnosis of
Behcet’s disease or perhaps Crohs. Under tx by university med center here. After tx with prednisone developed
pain in all joints, and especially whole right leg, particularly the knee and spasticity along the St channel in the
thigh. hard to the touch and sore!. She is a red head with bright eyes and freckles. She was warm to the touch. On
20 mg prednisone. Puffy face which she said was new, of course. First treatment I did some Kiiko style and
determined that immune (lung) was pertinent along with Kidney. Did some of that and cleared all the belly
findings, which stuck. Then on to Saam. I chose to do Tonify Liver on the left because pain was mostly on R. She
had instant relief of whole leg pain. Her parent said that after the acupuncture she was lighter, more energetic, back
to her her “old self” and much more active. At the third tx I tonified SI on the Left, since she still had a little pain in
R leg. She left the clinic feeling great. That was 2 days ago. I did use very thin needles there, Seirin light green and
dark greens because she was so afraid. I also used Shen Men in ears to help her relax the first couple of times. I am
thrilled with the results and actually think I can do pediatrics now that I have such a simple system that is so
powerful.
Treating kids with Sa’am

I have a great result with Sa’am today…finally hahaha. My son had a huge fever today (vomiting, lethargic,
body aches, and overall just complaining of too much “hot” inside). He hasn’t warmed up to the needles yet, so I
tonified UB with tuning forks. I directed the tuning fork as I would a needle for tonifying or sedating. I then
visualized the vibrations traveling in the appropriate direction. Oh man, that sounds so woo woo for some. By the
time I got to UB 40 he perked up and said, “mom, this feels really good. I’m feeling better already.” My mommy
heart melted with relief and the Acupuncturist inside was smiles from ear to ear. Granted I haven’t had a lot of time
to sit down and really logistically geek out the way my brain would like, today really helped me find confidence
and see what is possible with this system. Small success, feels like a big win!
