Hi Toby,
I have realized I don’t really understand how to consider people’s relationship with money in SAAM acupuncture.
I think I understand that Lung deficiency goes along with people “having money issues.” but I’m not sure I have
this right nor am I sure what “money issues” means. Does it have to do with abundance in general or just money?
Could you help?
Thank you!

Hi @sweiz
So, consider the counterbalance LU <—> ST.
A lung deficiency can be seen as a stomach excess.
In my practice I’ve seen people who are struggling for money and always have a hard story. When they are thin
and with greasy skin, that’s Stomach excess, you would tonify the lung.
Sometimes people are thin with moist skin and their money situation is ok-ish. But it swings wildly from
abundance to debit. And they ALWAYS have a luck story to go with it. That’s Stomach excess too.
As always, these are things to pay attention to but they are not “laws”
Lung excess types tend to have resources. Even if they don’t personally have a lot of money, they are somehow
connect to people that give them resources.

“money issues” is the macroscopic presentation of the microcosmic pattern of “Lu deficiency”. Both of these can
be seen as resources (qi and $ are good examples). Lu excess presents with abundance of resources (qi,$,etc) and
effortless access to more of it. St excess is the opposite presentation.

Yes abundance (qi, $, highly beneficial social connections, etc)
Hope this helps,

Continuing the discussion from Money issues and Lung?:
Hi Everyone,
Recently, treating myself gave me some insight into Lung deficiency and relationship to resources as well as the
perception vs reality aspect to consider with diagnosis.
An overwhelming inappropriate sense of urgency- shaky and racy- was greatly relieved- Ahhhhhh- by
supplementing the Lung. The urgency was centered around food provisioning and meal planning for the week and
included a general sense of “not enough” when the reality is that I have plenty.
I’ve treated supplemented Pericardium for this before, which helped some but not as much as the Lung. Signs that
lead me to Pericardium include acne at the Gb area of the hairline, tendency to hold my breath when stressed, and
aggressive/raging thoughts when I am tired.
Signs that pointed me to Lung deficiency/relative Stomach excess include a thinner body with mild acne on the
face worse with over-moisturizing; flat thenar eminences even though my hand strength is good, a large birth mark
on right UB13.
Treating the Lung also helped reduce my tendency to a drippy nose that hasn’t responded to herbs or acupuncture.
I am so thrilled that the forum is up and working. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
Thanks Michael and Toby.

Oh yes @KristinWisgirda nothing like using ourselves as a white mouse to see how this stuff works!

This helpful, I too would usually go to PC to calm that kind of anxiety.
This reminds of patients asking… Why do I have anxiety? And I tend to think about how “anxiety” might present
through each of the five phases. This is a great reminder to differentiate both on phase and conformation. And to
consider the “opposite” side of the counterbalance as well.

Hello everyone,
Reading kwisgirda’s explanation of treatment brought to mind a question I had in general. If treating more than one
channel and only using eight needles, do we treat both on the same side (right for women, left for men) or do one
on the right and one on the left? Or does it not matter?
This is my first post. Thank you Michael et al. for creating a great place for us to ask and learn.

@Donley this is a great question. Usually it would be one set of four on one side and the other set of four on the
other.
That being said…And I can not emphasis this enough!!!
In the beginning it is best to only use one channel.
Only using one channel does several things
1- it keeps your patients safe
2- it helps you better understand the system as you have only one input instead off multiple inputs, so your patients26/01/2024, 12:21Money issues and Lung? – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

are only responding to one thing. So if they get better… you know why. And if they don’t or if they get worse…
you know why.
Only using one channel in the beginning will help you to clarify your clinical thinking. And while in school you
may have learned that 4 needles did not do much, in this system it is a lot of stimulation because it is NOT
balancing or harmonizing, but rather strongly forcing the body in a particular direction.
Four needles is plenty to effectively treat someone, but you will not believe it until you do it a few times. So start
with only one channel in the beginning. Doing two channels will not help your learning, and it could cause
problems for your patient.

I agree with Michael. Remember that each treatment affects the whole circle of 12, so the effect will wash over the
whole system. We have such a sense of urgency, and a long time mistrust of the acupuncture. Our patients also
want results now. We must be careful not to get pulled in by that. Because in this system more is not better.

@ngmatthews damn! You totally speak the truth here. An uncomfortable truth as we who are practitioners indeed
so often don’t trust what we have… that it will be enough… the more is not gooder.
I think many of us do know that “just enough” is right, but we don’t have, or have not developed trustworthy
markers so we can gauge our intervention.

I second @michaelmax. Well said @ngmatthews.
Thank you Michael for your answer. You are so correct of course! And Aculaura’s further insight is certainly
something I’m going to have to meditate on. I have a big story on trusting the medicine better told over a cup of tea
(or a beer) than over type.26/01/2024, 12:21Money issues and Lung? – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

Well @Donley, now you’ve really piqued my interest.

Wow, thank you for punching me in the gut and heart all at the same time (said with a huge smile). I’ll be
meditating and moving through my “disbelief” of this medicine now.
It’s so fascinating to reflect on my trust and mistrust at the same time. I know it works. I see it happen all the time.
But then why am I so “surprised” every time??? You nailed it. The mystery is a gift still unfolding. Thank YOU!
