Menses and using SI+

I’ve learned from various sources that in general, we shouldn’t supplement SI from cycle day 3 to the end of period, so we don’t over-scatter the kidney energy, which needs to consolidate at the end of menses.

  1. is this correct thinking? (in general)
  2. If someone has VERY heavy periods and hence heavy blood loss, would it be appropriate to do LV+/SI+ on day 3 or towards end of the period? Or is this treatment best done after all flow has ended?

thanks for any clarity and refinement.

Just my thoughts here . . . great question. I did not attend Toby’s recent class on Sa’Am and Gynecology . . someone who did may want to comment . . or you could buy the class and watch. I think in general, it all depends on the ‘severity’ of a case. Sometimes, in Sa’Am we do something that might seem in the meta-sense ‘counter-intuitive’ to address a severely presenting symptom . . for example, Kristin recently recounted a case from Toby’s clinic where all of the overall signs pointed to dryness . . . the patient’s morphology was super thin, no flesh, very dry skin . . even I think an ‘industrious’ disposition . . . so many signs and symptoms pointing to LI XS . . . and YET . . . the patient, arising out of cancer treatment I believe . . had gums that were ‘falling apart’ and pustulent . . . and for a treatment or two, Sa’Am LI supplementation was given to rectify this extreme symtpom and certainly once rectified, the patient was then given Spleen supplementing treatments. You may have a case that is so intense in its blood stasis . . . that even if the patient has some orientation towards Kidney deficiency, you may need to do SI + treatment anyway . . certainly could be followed with Ki + treatment once the stasis was cleared. On the other hand, if the patient presents with such powerful Kidney XS (hyper symmetrical, early menarche, super fertile, and a lot of blood stasis) . . . I don’t think I would even worry about an SI+ treatment at any time in her cycle.

thanks @Daniel, your thoughts make sense and is also how I would operate.

if @Tobydaly1 has an “official” stance from this Saam lineage regarding using SI+ at the end of the cycle (whether in combo with another channel, or alone), I would appreciate hearing.

I generally do no supplement SI+ much in the ovulatory phase. However if someone has a pale tongue and other signs fit I have certainly supplemented SI+ combined with LR+.
If there is menorrhagia which a KD+ supplementation has helped I would be extra cautious even with a pale tongue. (and use herbs post menstruation).

I am sure there are other cases where I have supplemented SI+ in the ovulatory phase – especially in younger women who are quite KD+ excess.
