Intense Expression of BOTH ends of a Pair

It ALWAYS fascinates me when a patient presents with very extreme expressions of both ends of a pair! This
morning I had a 63 year old male in . . . on the one hand, he has a wickedly intense sweet tooth . . . like, if there is a
bowl of candy, of wine gums, jujubes, whatever anywhere near him, he will eat them ALL , with no control . . .
AND his mouth is full of cavities and fillings!! . . . BUT, on the other hand . . . he is a slim and trim, (NO inner or
outer damp body type physique at all), highly active, industrious University professor – always on the go (his wife
complains that he never settles down). So he is both very strongly Spleen Excess AND very strongly Large
Intestine Excess. And the reason he is coming for treatment? He is a professional classical clarinetist . . . for them,
embouchure is critical – the tension in their lips has to be highly exact and controllable for 5 or 6 hours a day!
Suddenly, he has developed an ache and fatiguing in his lips after only an hour of playing that has severely
restricted his performance and practice endurance. And the lips so clearly are at that intersection of the Spleen
Large Intestine Axis!

How did you end up treating him??? What helped his aching lips in the end??

So often we see one side of the counterbalanced pairs, but here were both in all their excess glory. Which as you
point out intersects with his lips and his embouchure which allows him to play clarinet.
I suspect if we look at people who excel at what they do, we will find high levels in a pair or many pairs of
counterbalanced channels.
How did you end up treating him?

I also wonder if you consider his intense sweet tooth his manifestation of compulsion, ie his drug of choice, if
that might open up another way to look at things. A behavior that someone indulges in despite the fact that is doing
harm (rotting his teeth) is a compulsion whether it is sugar, alcohol, drugs, extreme diets like veganism, over
exercise, over work, too much sex could be almost anything that someone repeatedly engages in despite the self-
harm. These are behaviors I have come to look at as an invitation to ask the question, what is really wanting to be
nourished? when that urge hits? It is usually some young aspect of ourselves that really needs a little lovin and is
just going about getting the need met in a really unsophisticated instinctual (4 yr old) way. Generally the sugar08/01/2024, 13:55Intense Expression of BOTH ends of a Pair – Qiological Community

(alcohol, drugs ) does a passable job satisfying the need in the short term, but because the real need was never
identified, it is never actually addressed at the root. With our needles, we can address the root, which, as the person
holds the question what is really wanting to be nourished? , can give them the space to make different choices
when the urge hits. It takes time, to change that kind of behavior, but it does happen and we can help. I find there is
good information about how to do that when I ask into the circumstances that lead up to the behavior, what is the
feeling they are trying to alleviate with it?
