I am treating a 15 year old girl with insomnia. It manifests as difficulty falling asleep – it could take her hours to
fall asleep.
She leans more toward a PC excess type. She does not get angry very much and when she gets annoyed or irritable
she usually retreats rather than have a confrontation.
She has a lot of difficulty making decisions and has to push herself hard to find the confidence and drive to get
things done.
She does have a red tip to her tongue even though the sides are pale with a paler tongue and a white coating.
She also suffers from allergies with a lot of sneezing and either stuffy or runny nose.
Even with this presentation I did PC+ because of the insomnia.
She settled on the table but the result was no change in the insomnia and she found herself depressed and with even
less drive to move or do anything.
So I tonified GB and the insomnia went away and she was happier with more drive and confidence than she had in
a long time
So an important lesson was learned. Even though PC+ is a gem that treats insomnia, it doesnt always. You can t
tonify PC in someone who is GB deficient and expect it to cure insomnia in all cases.
In this case, just giving back some of that lacking GB fire was able to balance the system out enough to allow her
to settle into sleep at night.
This brings me to another case where I face a similar dilemma:
I am treating a 77 year old woman who is having difficulty taking deep breaths in.
My first instinct was to tonify PC
but as the intake went along she said that she does not get angry but is rather meek and does not express herself in
conflict. She retreats and avoids confrontation. She holds it all in.
So I did not tonify PC given my previous experience with tonifying PC for insomnia in someone who is PC excess.
The questions are:
1. Should I risk trying GB+ to help with the deep breaths?
2. Should PC+ still be considered?
3. Should I just look elsewhere?
4. The original presentation of a Lu excess type in the intro class was someone who has shallow breathing –
since they are so puffed out in the lung area,
but in the recent case study seminar Toby tonified LU for someone who had difficulty breathing so do we
look toward tonifying St or LU for someone who is having difficulty breathing?
Thank-you

That GB excess suffers from insomnia is the least valuable and most misleading of the gems, because our
community has seen that just about every channel can be used for insomnia.

Yes! Looking for settling on the table with P+ can be so treacherous. I recently had a case where a hyper patient got
soooo relaxed with P+, but then her headaches were worse. Yikes!
Adina_Kletzel:

Even though red tip tongue is not a gem, your experience with this patient definitely take the shine off the
reliability off that finding.

The great thing about breathing problems is that the patient often experiences them constantly so you can evaluate
treatment effect on the table. If the only finding possibly relating to GB excess is having a hard time breathing in, I
would consider P excess because of the rest of her presentation or look elsewhere.

It is the same situation as P/GB- you have to consider the big picture but then hold as a possibility that the flip
could be true. Both Lung and Stomach excess can have breathing difficulties. I probably have used St+ more often
than Lung+ in my practice.

Remember, the GB pushes energy up and out. If you can t get a good exhale, there is no room for a good inhale.
