At this point, I’m starting to have a good sense of the ways in which each of the organ networks in Sa’am manifest
in how the person expresses themselves and experiences the world. However, I’m still pretty unclear when it comes
to the SI and KD. I understand SI types to be spreading themselves outwardly, and the KD to be more self-focused,
but that’s as far as my understanding goes. I’ve really just been using +SI treatments for cases of blood stasis and
not using the KD much at all. Could anyone help me flesh out these archetypes?

Kidney excess types at the extreme are beautiful self-loving Hollywood types- symmetrical, narcissistic, they love
to be the center of attention. Signs of strong Kidney are fleshy/smooth/firm medial heel, pronounced occipital
protuberance, strong fertility. All the substantial inward directed energy can lead to blood stasis and hard masses.
But strong Kidney can give them the fortitude to withstand harsh circumstances. These people come through
chemo and radiation without being as diminished as people with less Kidney strength.
SI excess types will tend to be assymmetrical (not such “great bones”), have diminished fertility, poor self-esteem
(I’m so ugly), have less tendency to get static blood and might look young for their age.

Thanks, K. That makes a lot of sense!
On a related note, I tend to use abdominal palpation as a primary diagnostic tool, and when I perceive blood stasis
from the abdomen, I’ve been incorporating +SI treatments—several have been very useful, but a couple times the
person has felt not-so-great afterward (ungrounded, spacy). So, I’m trying to discern when would be the best time
to use +SI. Just because there’s blood stasis doesn’t necessarily mean that the SI is the channel most in need of
tonification at a given time, so I’m aspiring to not just zoom in on +SI, but to stay open to whatever the grossest
presentation is in the moment.

My understanding is to consider supplementing SI when blood stasis is substantial and is a primary pathology,
rather than being secondary to some other condition. I saw extensive varicosities in the feet improve on the table
with a Stomach supplementing treatment, much more than would be expected by just elevating the legs.
Before Sa’am, I practiced in a very palpation heavy style using the abdomen or other problem areas as referents. At26/01/2024, 12:13Help with SI & KD – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

times, I still rely on palpation to help confirm my Sa’am diagnosis. Just today, a polite skinny dry patient with
super focused eyes came in with a chief complaint of frequent urination (every hour). Even though he had just
urinated, pressing on Ren4 created an urge to urinate. Pressing on right Liv8 and K10 with the channels,
repalpating ren 4, the urge to urinate was gone. This was the tie breaker since I was back and forth between treating
Liver and Spleen for him.
I definitely try to press on at least 2 of the 4 points and often recruit my patients to palpate the referent site. I don’t
always use palpation but, as I have been learning this power system, it has been comforting to have a confirmation
that the body likes the points before I put the thick needles in.

Hi Ryan,
I am not as well versed in this as others but I have some positive experiences to share about treating Kidney. I’ve
used it with a treatment principle in mind which is to consolidate the storage capacity of the Kidneys. I also use
some abdominal and pulse palpation and in one person, I treated Kidney because she had Kidney Yin and Yang
deficiency vaginal dryness and chronic UTI (cold type). Her pulse and abdomen both showed Kidney weakness
and she tended to give herself away too much. She had wonderful results with Kidney for all symptoms. Another
woman feels she must care for others before herself to a fault. She gets herself exhausted and resentful. I used
Kidney on her to help her feel how good it can feel to consider herself and she felt so different. So, for me, giving
oneself away too much is another key to treating Kidney and is opposite to the narcissism of SI and, in a way
opposite the loving others of the Heart.

Ryan_Gallagher:
I understand SI types to be spreading themselves outwardly,
Reading the post a first time, I didn’t catch this statement. SI function is taiyang water+ fire. It creates dynamic
movement but doesn’t have an outward orientation. Physiologically or when in excess the systems that are directed
outwardly are
Heart directing love outwardly
GB actin courageously/aggressively
SJ concentrating with outward focus
The dynamic hot/cold of SI also can be considered for windy conditions such as dizziness and itching of any kind.
It can treat wind by not only moving blood but also mildly supplementing blood. However, SI should be used very
cautiously or not all in very deficient patients. As well, practitioners new to the system- meaning all of us on this
forum- are warned not to supplement SI in pregnancy because of the dynamically moving quality.26/01/2024, 12:13Help with SI & KD – Sa’am Clinical Questions – Qiological Community

For those who are still new to Sa’am and learning the archetypes, I’ll clarify the last part of @sweiz’s statement to
say that supplementing SI counterbalances the narcissism and excess self love of Kidney excess. SI excess in
contrast can manifest with low self esteem and can be treated by supplementing the self loving Kidney.
