I had a patient today who was a head scratcher. I needled Liv+ and she said she felt uneasy so I switched to SJ. She
called me back and said she could feel her heart beating. I was then at a loss of what to do. I went back to SI+
which I had done the last treatment which felt really good to her. It was also just 2 points different to SJ+ so it
seemed maybe less invasive?? but she still didn’t settle so I took out all the needles decided to leave SA’am and
just did a balancing method. I probably shouldn’t have gone to a third SA’am choice but I thought because it had
been good last time and I didn’t have an opposite channel to choose when she had that negative response with SJ, it
was a good bet. Patient ended up feeling relaxed with the simple bilateral treatment but I’m left wondering what
that tells me and what is the best thing to do in that situation. I almost wondered if it was the controlling nature of
the SJ and perhaps she was fighting it and if I had left liv+ she would have settled. I think that has been mentioned
in the forum before however how does one determine that?
She’s pregnant 40 + 2 weeks. I’ve seen her for the last 3 weeks. I’ve done Lu+ twice which helped her energy as
well as helped her get over a cold. I did SI+ once last week which helped her sleep. I was going to do SI again but
then thought of LIV+ because her left cheek was feeling especially red and hot today. It’s worth noting she has
been crampy this last week and I suspect she will go into labor soon so she also might be extra sensitive.
Quick recap of her.
She is a very inquisitive patient always wanting to know what I’m doing and why. She has lots of questions.
Her eyes in brightness are 4+.
Her sensitivity to light is 6+
Her lips are purple 9+
Her left cheek is red 8+
Her nose is red 8+
Her nose is dry 8+
Rest of her skin moist 6+
Her body is slim 7+
Her facial symmetry 6+
Feeling hot 7+

@Shanlarson I know you have been using Saam for quite awhile, so we don’t have to talk about more newbie
mistakes like wrong needle direction, etc.

that?
Fighting the treatment is more GB excess. SJ excess might more politely resist the settling process resulting in
taking a longer time to ease into settling.
It looks like Liv+ was a good choice based on the presentation. Is is possible the “uneasiness” was a
hypersensitivity to otherwise ok body sensations amplified by SJ excess and being so gravid?
Was she having any Gb excess that day? Feeling extra protective of herself or edgy being so close to giving birth?
A GB excess could explain resistance to an otherwise good treatment strategy.
These are my best guesses. Clinic is hard!

sounded pretty good…
I can really understand your hesitancy and difficulty to try yet a third treatment in this one visit. This seems to me
where the rubber really hits the road. We are unsure if its the patient that needs to settle and or go thru whats
happening on the table, and subjectively from our view, are things ok(?) Time is of the essence and we feel the
need to do right by our patient, and now the clock is ticking.

“She’s pregnant 40 + 2 weeks “, SI+ may be a good consideration next time.

(just noticed @KristinWisgirda had chimed in while I was coming back n forth to this post in my clinic)
