Hello,
I had a really interesting experience with a patient I’ve been seeing for chronic neck pain on the right side, SCM
muscle. She’s very polite and thin on the deficient side of the spectrum and was just ending her cycle. Her tongue
is thin and narrow with a red tip. Her stress has been high at work and she’s been clenching her jaw at night. She’s
married and has a 3 year old at home. She’s been very stressed out with work and always on the go. I inquired
about her wanting to retreat and shield herself from the world and have time alone. She said she definitely feels
like she doesn’t get enough time alone and the idea of a cool dark cave by herself sounded great.
I tonified liver. After I placed the needles she said she felt a little woozy, which had me concerned. She said it
wasn’t in a bad way, but that is she were to stand, she may fall. She was comfortable with keeping the needles in
and riding the wave. She said it felt like it was a good thing, just very strong. When I went to pull her needles, she
asked for a little more time because she was feeling something in her neck. After the treatment she said she fell
asleep for the first time ever in an acupuncture session, which was very exciting to me. She also said she
experienced visual lights and hallucinations that were very vivid. I’m taking these as positive signs and was pretty
excited to hear about her experience. I’ll be interested to see how her neck pain is when she returns. Is there any
significance to these visual light hallucinations? San jiao excess being processed or reduced by the liver perhaps?

Thanks for the case. Sounds like a good response to treatment. Please let us know how she makes out.

Very common when treating with Saam in general, not a special characteristic of Liver+. A few of my patients have
reported seeing faces specifically which Toby says is common too.31/01/2024, 11:24Liver and visual hallucinations – Sa’am Clinical Insights – Qiological Community

Just a quick update on this patient. My colleague saw her two weeks after this visit and she said the treatment had
held for 2 weeks and her neck pain has been mostly diminished. Very happy to hear and continually amazed by this
modality.
