I Literally Had a Patient Yesterday Say …

. . . . . as a kid, I spent all my time in the dark cool forest by myself and its still where I like to go often.

Oh, Daniel, you’ll get spoiled by patients like that.
In contrast: I had a patient tell me “My trip to Iceland was great. They had the best bread.” and then she continued
on about how much she enjoyed the bread. No other info about the rest of Iceland. If I had listened more closely,
she wouldn’t of had 3 weeks of daily headaches from mistreatment. Gulp!
I treated her for left s/i joint pain (and other conditions) for 4 months (every 1-3 weeks depending on schedules)
with no more than 50% improvement in the s/i joint. During those months, many other symptoms disappeared but
the back pain just wouldn’t budge. She didn’t seem to lean heavily either way on the Liver/Sj axis but that was the
last strategy I had left. Being modestly polite, forthright, not shielded and pleasant, I opted to Liv+. On the table,
Liv+ reduced pressure pain in her pain area and she seemed to settle as much as with any treatment. Her settling is
hard to read because she is so mellow to start with.
At her next appointment, 3 weeks later, she told me that she had had a headache every day since the previous
appointment. She gets cluster headaches at times, so this didn’t strike her as unusual. Of course, SJ+ was the plan
of action. The next time she returned, the headaches were gone and her back pain was 95% better. One more SJ+
treatment and the back pain was gone and has stayed gone for over a month.
Though the bread comment could be seen as a Spleen excess, a SJ excess would likely have more to say about
Iceland than good bread! If I had gone back to the other aspects of Liver excess-dull, cool, dense, heavy (yes to
all)- instead of just focusing on her politeness and lack of shielding, she wouldn’t have had the rough road to back
pain relief. I’ve had an aversion to Liver excesses before, so this lady’s pleasant and communicative nature threw
me.
My takeaway is that the clues are right before your face if you can see beyond your own biases.

Ha! GREAT story Kristin . . . and well told. Thank you! Yes, it seems Sa’Am is so very related to how observant
and attentive we are!! By the way, I ONLY posted the above because it was just hilarious how her statement was
verbatim out of the textbook!!! but LOL, I NEVER said the case was easy!! In FACT, here are her symptoms . . . .
LOVES Sugar!!!, has ZERO interest in food, cooking or eating, EXCEPT SUGAR (‘If I could just eat sugar, I
would”), has hemorrhoids that get severe if she stands too much, constipation, insomnia because her mind is
hyperactive and won’t turn down at night, bunions!!! an Earth nightmare.30/01/2024, 11:58I Literally Had a Patient Yesterday Say . . . – Sa’am Clinical Insights – Qiological Community

And then, there was that ‘I Love the cool dark forest. It’s where I go’ comment . . . . . interestingly, she recently
went to Manhattan and LOVED IT – But, get this . . . . . because (unlike the town we live in where everyone knows
you and knows your business) – in Manhattan, she could be completely anonymous (now isn’t THAT interesting???
finding the shield in a crowded huge city because noone knows you!?)
Clinic is definitely NOT easy
we REALLY have to pay attention to precisely what someone says and why (in this case, I could have completely
diametrically incorrectly misinterpreted her love for a crowded city).

True, but it sure is interesting, so interesting that I want to hear what happens in your clinic with this patient. Please
let us know.

Daniel: January 12, 2020, 11:14pm
yes, its VERY interesting – I really appreciate more than any other system Ive worked with (for some reason), the
feedback features of the Sa’Am system (I had a very longstanding patient recently – several years ago, she had been
in a serious head injury accident – and has since been hypersensitive to over stimulation, just cannot handle more
than one thing a day – too much commotion, too much light, etc . . . . before xmas, I did my first Sa’Am treatment
with her – supplemented Liver to give her some shielding . . . and did not tell her what I had done . . . she came last
week . . . . raving about how she has been doing several things a day with no problem, how over Xmas she hosted a
major meal at her house – something she would not have been able to do . . . . when I told her that her last treatment
was precisely to give her the shielding so she could function better with multi-tasks a day . . . .she was incredulous.
So was I! The feedback!!).
I will keep you posted on this case . . . .

HI,
What exactly do you mean by that statement? What else would a SJ excess have to say about Iceland? I am trying
to learn how to listen better to discern the excess’s so I would like to understand what you wanted yourself to hear.

KristinWisgirda: January 13, 2020, 10:04pm
If the patient tipped the scale even slightly to the SJ excess side, she would have seen something, anything, besides
bread to notice in Iceland, even if she didn’t love it. The bread comment fits the dull, inward focus of a Liver
excess. A somewhat SJ excess would have at least given details about the bread. She just kept repeating how good
it was. The SJ excess description of her trip would include noticing things outside of herself and include at least
some details.

Many pearls of wisdom where we have to have our SJ excess antenna up to connect the dots.
I had a similar SJ+ experience with a patient I have seen for 2+ years. I have been doing only Saam on her for over
a year. Each treatment (both Saam and pre-Saam) she would say “that was good…I went deep…I feel good”. She
is a therapist working out her own trauma. She has been on 600mg of Lithium/day for decades and sometimes her
face can have a dull affect. But she is extremely polite, bright lights bother her and she says she has good night
vision.
When I did LR+ on her she always reported doing well. However last week it hit me “duh she looks dull – she
needs light – do SJ+”. Her verbatim response when I took out the needles was “Wow, that was amazing I feel like I
am close. That brought all this light into me”.
She is on the table now and reported “feeling great for days” after last week’s SJ+ treatment, she felt “so calm and
easy about things” . She also reported all these things falling into place for her (maybe more awareness?).

Thanks for the case, George. A great reminder to see the patient beyond the symptoms.
And not to confuse too much shielding/dullness and settling.

This is also something to contemplate. Awareness of the outer world can make life easier if you have been trying to
navigate in the dark.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around how SJ+ can help with sleep as cases on the forum report. There is more to
sleep than cool, dull density.

I tend to think of it all in an ecological way. Of course sleep in itself is ‘cool, dull, density’ one could say . . . but in
a larger overall sense, if someone is SJ deficient, then their waking experience of the outer world, its detail, its
brilliance is not being ‘exercised’ well for the waking hours of every diurnal cycle so it makes sense to me then that
their capacity to then experience the non-waking side of the diurnal cycle would be inadequate as well . . . like you
have to expand fully to then contract fully. Everything gets flattened – compromised experience of the light and
consequently, compromised experience of the dark.

Adina_Kletzel: January 14, 2020, 9:56pm
I see that now and I appreciate such a great example as to how to listen so we can hear the excesses and
deficiencies under the words. Thanks!30/01/2024, 11:58I Literally Had a Patient Yesterday Say . . . – Sa’am Clinical Insights – Qiological Community

Thanks Daniel. I get it but somehow I understand more deeply how yang qualities support yin rest for other
channels, like GB and SI. We know light effects circadian rhythms. Now the challenge is to be able to identify
Liver excess insomnia when it walks into the clinic.
