In the Saam system, self cultivation is of paramount importance. All the technical details of the system are “fleshed
out” onto the sturdy “bones” of the Saam practitioner’s self cultivation. The Saam system was developed by a
Buddhist monk who had taken a Bodhitsattva vow. “Bodhisattvas promise to practice the six perfections of giving,
moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom (Wikipedia 4/4/19).”
Scholar physicians of the Saam system obviously should not convert to Buddhism. Practitioners of this system
should however cultivate the virtuous qualities (that no religion or even non-religion could object to) in which ever
way they see fit. Cultivation of these qualities benefit the practitioner, their patients, and society at large.

@Tobydaly1 Thanks for this!
It is so easy to get caught up in the science of practice, or the day to day concerns of running a business, or the
need to feel like we are right. Dropping down a level as you talk about here adds a firm footing.

THanks for this Toby.
I like that self cultivation is a part of this system.
It makes you remember that what we are doing is more than just choosing four points…
It goes deeper than that and the deeper we go the better we will be able to see.
Maybe every so often you can give a self cultivation suggestion or exercise on this wonderful forum for us to focus
on.
Thank-you.

@Tobydaly1 thanks for this, and to @michaelmax and @Adina_Kletzel for your intention and follow up.
Clearly the Bohdisattva vow is a difficult and noble one to attain, yet clearly one to aspire for. The vow also
consists of “putting others before self, and developing the heart/mind and aspirations for the benefit of all beings”
for this we can all be humbled and inspired17/01/2024, 11:57The Importance of Self Cultivation in the Saam System – Qiological Community
