Lorraine Wilcox just posted (and recommended) this upcoming online 8 week course on I Ching. Given that
Sa’Am as Toby teaches it here is a synthesis that includes I Ching, perhaps some of you would be interested. I’m
going to take it for sure.
Online Workshop ‘The Power of the Hexagrams’
(Click on the picture to hear the text in a video) The Yijing, the Chinese Book of Changes, is a
book of divination that is used by thousands of people all over the world. For more than twenty-
five…

Thanks for this link Daniel! Even if you are unable to take the course right now, the free videos on the teacher’s
site are worth a look: https://www.yjcn.nl/wp/videos/
Watching these videos gave me the first inkling that studying the Yi Jing might actually have practical implications
for the practice of medicine, rather than just being another impenetrable field of study. Not to base diagnosis on
divination but rather to cultivate an understanding of natural processes through the interactions of foundational
qualities, a la Saam.
A benefit of being underemployed right now is the opportunity to consider such study.

The teacher of the class, Harmen Mesker, recommends this site: yijing.website
If you are interested in exploring the trigrams, you can read a Wilhelm chapter here:
https://yijing.website/Pages/deTienVleugels.php#acht_tekens
Also, the site uses Harmen’s information int he hexagram and trigram analysis. If you are interested in the trigrams
and how their significance is changed by the position they occur in, pick a hexagram here
https://yijing.website/Pages/hexagrammenboek.php
When the hexagram comes up, click “The Sign”. It will then break down the hexagram into trigrams which you
can click on and read about. A trigram in the upper position indicates outer and other. When in the lower position, it
indicates self and inner.15/01/2024, 12:208 Week Online I Ching Course – Qiological Community

Just a preliminary reading has been a fun exercise comparing my understanding of Saam with the trigrams. For
instance, the trigram Li pertains to fire. Wilhelm calls it “Clinging” because fire clings to its source. 2 yang lines
sandwich a yin line, protecting what is weak. Li relates to Shaoyin Fire, Heart and Kidney. Fire that is out of
balance can lead to addiction, destructive relationships from being overly attached, fixation, occupation with outer
appearance and fame.
Nice resources to check out if you are thinking about taking his course.

I am half way through this course – and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Harmen is an excellent teacher.

this is your chance
a few spaces left in his June class . . . .

Having done the course, how has it affected your practice/understanding of medicine and Saam specifically?
Thanks!

Daniel: August 1, 2020, 4:34am
Hi Raui. I wish I could give you a simple answer. I really can’t. I just feel I understand the trigrams much better –
although its an evasive understanding and, in my experience, it requires continual usage to cultivate a deep
internalisation.15/01/2024, 12:208 Week Online I Ching Course – Qiological Community
