Needling Technique- LU 8

Hello all,

I am hitting what I am perceiving to be a snag with needling this point both on myself and on patients. After inserting the needle and threading it along the channel about a cun, when I attempt to twist to tonify/drain I find that I am winding the skin itself around the needle about a half turn before I can not turn it further. I'm not able to fully rotate the needle x3 like I can in other points. I do needle transversely and I'm wondering if it's too transverse. Looking for guidance as to how to improve. thank you!

Are you locating Lu 8 distal to the styloid process of the radius?

@toby Yes, aiming at the little depression created just distal to the bone.

Are you rotating the needle back and forth as you thread it?

It's not necessary to rotate it exactly 3X.

Possibly, but I also needle very transversely and I am able to rotate the needle without it getting wound around the skin.

Thanks Toby. I have not been rotating the needle back and forth upon insertion. That might be the issue. I'll try that at the next opportunity.
