Hi Toby,

I have a patient coming in for UC.  She is on meds so most of the symptoms are under control but she still complaints of excessive bloating and water retention.  She said that when she went on vacation, she had to trouble at all and lost 4 lbs despite eating and drinking alcohol.  I am thinking that stress is one of the main causes of her UC.  She is difficult for me to discern whether she is SJ or Liver excess.  She has alot of neck and shoulder tension, and LUQ fullness.  She does have dark blotches in her complexion.

I am curious from your experience,  are patients with UC mostly LV excess or SJ excess?

I haven't noticed my UC patients being either Liv or SJ excess. I'll keep an eye out to see if future UC patients tend toward one of these.

@toby For UC patients, one of the TCM diagnosis is liver attacking spleen which is why I think of the SJ/LV pair.  What do you tend to see with UC patients?  What do you look for?

<What do you tend to see with UC patients?>

A wide variety of channel pair imbalances.

<What do you look for?>

The biggest gaps in channel pairs.
